The SME sector has long awaited a platform like this. On January 24, the Innoclub officially opened its doors, bringing together around 130 guests at the 300-square-meter ‘Clubhouse’ within the TechnologieZentrumDortmund (TZDO). Among the distinguished attendees were NRW Science Minister Ina Brandes, IHK Managing Director Stefan Schreiber, Heike Marzen (Managing Director of the Dortmund Economic Development Agency), Prof. Manfred Bayer (Rector of TU Dortmund University), Prof. Tamara Appel (Rector of Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts), and Prof. Kai Rommel (Vice President of Research at ISM).
Strengthening the Connection Between Science and Business
“Innoclub is fostering stronger ties between science and business in Dortmund. This network will benefit universities, startups, and established companies alike, driving innovation and accelerating the transfer from research to real-world applications. I congratulate everyone involved and look forward to the positive impact this initiative will have on our city and beyond,” stated NRW Science Minister Ina Brandes.
Launched by the Dortmund Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Dortmund Economic Development Agency, TU Dortmund University, Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, and the International School of Management (ISM), Innoclub is designed to propel Dortmund’s economic transformation and innovation landscape. “With Innoclub, we are introducing a powerful tool to accelerate economic growth and technological advancement in our city,” added Heike Marzen, Managing Director of the Dortmund Economic Development Agency.
How Does Innoclub Facilitate Exchange?
At Innoclub, medium-sized enterprises and corporations engage with a carefully curated selection of top-tier startups. This collaboration fosters inspiration, knowledge exchange, and resource-sharing. The club comprises two key groups: Corporate Partners and Startup Partners.
The Clubhouse, located at TZDO, provides startups with coworking spaces, meeting rooms, and office facilities, all strategically positioned near leading research institutions and innovative enterprises. All exclusive Innoclub events are hosted in this space.
How to Get Involved?
For Startups
Startups must apply for membership, with only the most promising ventures being accepted. The focus is on mature startups with multiple employees and an active presence in the market. Much like a traditional accelerator program, accepted startups receive comprehensive support during their first year, including:
- €10,000 in flexible funding for consultancy, office space, travel, trade fairs, and other growth-related activities.
- Mentorship opportunities to refine their business strategies.
- Exclusive networking events to connect with industry leaders and potential partners.
For Corporations
Corporate Partners pay an annual membership fee based on company size and service package. The benefits of joining include:
- Access to cutting-edge innovations: Stay ahead by engaging with the latest technological advancements.
- Exclusive networking opportunities: Connect with startups and innovation managers in a trusted setting.
- Brand visibility and marketing: Position your company as an industry innovator and attract future talent.
- Support for regional development: Contribute to fostering a thriving startup and innovation ecosystem in Dortmund.
What Participants Are Saying
The response to Innoclub has been overwhelmingly positive. More than 20 established companies and startups have already joined, including the VAHLE Group, a global leader in mobile industrial applications based in Kamen.
“Our involvement in Innoclub allows us to strengthen our innovation capabilities and expand our network in one of Germany’s most dynamic regions,” said Achim Dries, CEO of VAHLE Group. “We see Innoclub as the ideal platform for collaborating with other companies and startups to drive forward-thinking solutions.”
Ralf Sturhan, co-founder of Cybersense, a cybersecurity software company launched in 2021, emphasized the network’s unique value. “We’re excited to be part of Innoclub from the start. Unlike traditional accelerator programs, this platform is tailored for startups that already have a market-ready product. It’s an excellent opportunity for us to exchange ideas with other innovators and drive meaningful progress together.”
